Summary

Well I am done yay! Having used most of these tools already it was pretty easy for me to breeze through this. Thats not to say that I didn't learn anything new because I did. I had no idea all the news feeds sites that were out there some of them were very interesting. Delicious was something else that I hadn't really looked at I think I am going to stick with Google for that one though. I am big fan of the google. I think it is a good introduction for people who have never used many of these things.

Well done Web 2.0 librarian ;)

News Feeds

First I have not used any other method for finding feeds other then the google reader or just seeing the feed icon on pages that I visit. I had no idea that there were so many different sites that were just dedicated to feeds. I did not like syndic8 too confusing for a simple minded person like me ;) I did like technorati. Now I just have to find time to read all the feeds that I added ;)

Wiki's

I like the idea of wiki's because they seem to be written by real people. People who think and talk like regular people not scholars :) Its also nice that people can add their own information to it. Sometimes its easier to find ot information about places you may not otherwise be able to like the town you grew up in (although not always the complete truth). But you can get a human take on things.
I think hat a wiki could help staff or patrons by keeping them up to day on information regarding the library and it would be a nice place for people to write their history of the library.

Discovering Feeds

First I would like to say that I didn't realize that we had so many feeds on the catalog.. After looking at several of them I found out some useful new websites. I added some of these to my bookmarks. I think that the public would like many if the feeds that have been selected but I would also be interested in seeing what feeds they want.
The new website seems to be changing daily and its looking better and better. I bookmarked the calendar and the new books. I like the fact that you can book mark whatever page you want. KUDOS to the web design team :)

Craigslist

First let me say freakin blogger for not accepting the original post I wrote so now I have to write again. Since I am one of the few Mets fans at the Library I decided to look for Mets tickets and this is what I found http://longisland.craigslist.org/tix/1027931101.html.
I have used Craigslist to purchase a washer and dryer and the transaction went well. Wow I feel like all I ever say is that I have used this before or I have this...how annoying!

Google Docs

I have actually used Google Docs to allow by co-workers to comment on an idea that I had for promoting the Summer Reading Club. I thinks its nice that everyone can write on the same document and its easier to see everyones ideas in one place....YAY GOOGLE!

Feed Reader

So this is what I learned while looking at my feed reader http://gawker.com/5149898/buy-tom-cruises-backwash-for-2200. I enjoy using the feed reader because it saves me time by checking on place for all the sites that I usually check. While most of my stuff is nonsense its still fun :)

Suffolk Wave

I have used Suffolk Wave to listen to the Golden Compass. The process was easy they walked you through it and they had a variety of titles to choose from. An excellent service!

I like the ease of uploading the photos and the fact that people can comment on them. They also have decent options for edit your pictures and you can order prints as well. YAY Flickr!

You Tube

You tube is excellent for finding random videos of random things from old commercials to funny movie clips. The Library could incorporate this by maybe having patrons do PSA's about what they like about the library and we could put them on our page.
This is my video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCkbKfsOQLI and I am pretty sure you can see why I picked it...lol

Library Thing

I have actually used Library Thing before although I have not logged on in a while. It is an excellent place to keep track of your books and find other books similar to the ones that you have read and you may like.

Delicious

I like this tool. I think its musch more user friendly then the library of congress cataloging. I think that people will be able to find thins much more easily since it is tagged by lets say humans :)

Myspace & Facebook

Having both a myspace and I facebook I recently have decided that I like facebook much better. I am in touch with many more people on facebook and it seems to be much more adult. No distracting backgrounds etc. I think social networking appeals to such a broad group of people because people have less time to actually go out and see people but can chat via the computer.

As far as the Library tapping into to the social networking world I think it needs to be in their face and have information on the page that is interesting to people.

Twitter

I have actually been twittering for quite some time now. Follow me: erikaawesome

Web 2.0

So far I find this very educational and entertaining.
